NOVEMBER UPDATE

Hi all and welcome to our November update.

Firstly a quick round up of October which was a busy month for us, again many miles travelled and new friends made. It was a bit of a strange feeling as we made our trips to Dorset and Norfolk for the last time this year and although winter is approaching we were so lucky with the weather……..maybe October is the new August!

We also managed to take a bit of a holiday while we were in Norfolk and our thanks to Phil for the use of the caravan and a big thank you to our friend Richard Penguin who not only arranged a couple of gigs for us but also interviewed us on his radio show and then supplied the coffee and cake on a walk we did with him… a star in the making…thanks Richard

It would also be remiss of us not to thank all those who came to our gigs in October, it is really nice to see so many friendly faces at each gig we do and thanks for your comments on our guestbook page……we love to read them!! (Hint hint!!)

Well now we are back home there is no slacking as November sees us doing a special gig on the 11th at the Old Oak Horsley Woodhouse with our friend Jack Hudson. This will be a very special night and we urge you if you can make it to come along.

We are also visiting a number of venues we know well and have a look at our gig guide to see where we will be and maybe come along…..

We will be also making an announcement about if we are going to do our Xmas gig so please come back and have a look soon……………or join our mailing list…. if you are not already on the list email us at tonynfa@aol.com and we will add you.

Ok you should know by now that we have been recording some new songs and while we would love to let you hear some new songs we are running a little behind schedule due to all the travelling we have been doing we have not had as much time to record as we had hoped so please be patient……we will get something out as soon as we can. We will be performing some of our new songs at our gigs in the coming month so if you really can’t wait then why not come along to a gig.

Oh and as a special treat we did a couple of new songs in our radio interview with Richard Penguin so if you cut and paste this link www.futureradio.co.uk/acousticandeclectic  you can listen to our interview and listen to our new songs….just look for the 0ctober 25th show and you can listen again to the show…Oh and let us know what you think of the new songs.

One more thing we should mention is that we are doing a charity night at Masson Mills Matlock on Saturday the 12th December. This is in aid of a number of local charities and it should be a great night so if you fancy mixing music with shopping then please come along. Here are the details

Saturday 12th December

Tickets are £15.00 and are available from Masson Mill shopping centre Matlock.

OCTOBER UPDATE

Hi all,

Well the sun shone….well mostly and September was a lovely month…both weather wise and gig wise.

Our lasting memory of our time at the great Fylde folk festival was sharing a bacon buttie with Dougie Maclean at two in the morning on Sunday night before driving home….(yes we did not get home till gone 4.30 am) we had a great time and for once we were not worried by the weather as we were staying in digs.

We would also like to thank all those who came to the Tump folk club to see us…we had a great night!

Tony’s finger is now fully healed and October sees us back travelling..But first we are looking forward to a few local gigs. We are very busy this month and so we will only mention a few gigs that may interest you. We will start with two gigs on the 6 and 7th (see our gig guide for details) our good friends  en-chate run a couple of acoustic nights and we are going to be the featured artist at the two night they run. We will be doing a 45 min sot on both nights so if you are in the area please come along….and the good news is both nights are fee entry.

We are then off Dorset………and our annual gig at the Square and Compass……regularly voted one of the top ten pubs in the UK by the Times and Guardian. Should be another great night.

We then come back locally for a few weeks and then off on our travels again………this time to Norfolk. We are going to stay the week in Cromer and as well as doing a few gigs we are going to have a bit of a break…. We may need it if we hit the wonderful Perry at the cider shed in Norwich!! (After the gig you understand)

Ok what else is new? Well we have added a new video to our youtube site so if you are interested then just search for us via Google…you will find us!...oh and the new video is the song Ready for the storm by Dougie Macclean…………….(what a surprise!) we have also been recording some new songs that we hope to stat to play live in the next few weeks…we will let you hear some rough demos soon……..

Well that’s it for this update…..we hope to see you somewhere down the road take care till the next time.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE

Hi all,

Another month passes into history but boy what an eventful month! The big news of the month was Tony badly cutting the tip of his finger with a pair of secaturs. This caused us to cancel some gigs so firstly our apology (or should that be Tony’s apology!) to anyone we disappointed by cancelling. The good news is that Tony is able to play again and we are now back gigging. Now apart from “fingergate” August also saw us on our travels around the country again with visits to Dorset and Oxfordshire.

We had the chance to be in Cropredy for the Fairport festival and although we did not have tickets into the main festival we enjoyed ourselves staying on a narrow boat (thanks so much Keith) and enjoying the fringe events. A friend of ours was taking pictures at Cropredy so here is a link to some pics if you are interested http://www.flickr.com/photos/photony/sets/72157621952298417/

September sees us again on our travels, this time to Fylde Folk Festival at Fleetwood Lancashire. This is a great festival and this will be our third time at the festival. The headline performer is Dougie Maclean and we are going to try and sneak in as he is one of our favourite singer songwriters and if you see us live you will know we play his song ready for the storm. Another person we must try and see is Eric Bogle as this tour is the last time he is coming to the UK. Oh and in case you are interested we will NOT be camping this year…… (Have you SEEN the weather forecast!!)

We will also be visiting Coome again and we are looking forward to seeing all our Oxfordshire friends.

We also had a album review in the Rock and Reel Magazine…well if you can call two sentences a review……oh well…. here it is

No Fixed Abode are Tony Dean and Una Walsh plus friends. There’s more of a hint of early Fairport about them on Clearwater, particularly the exuberant opener “What did I do” but the Trumpet on “Modern Life” takes them off into different areas. Nice one.

So there you go……..No Fixed Abode are moving into different areas!!!

As usual we have updated our gig guide although I do apologise that I do not keep the gig guide here as up to date as I do the myspace guide so please check our myspace page as well for gig information.

Well that’s it for this month, we will be back in the studio during September beavering away on a lot of new songs and with luck we may have some demos to tell you about next month. Till then have a good un and we will see you somewhere down the road.

august update

Hi all,

Well ok……so we are a few days late with this update, sorry but we were in Cumbria and have only just got back but more about that later.

Firstly we need to say a big thank you to all those who have pledged support for our new album. We will be sending you all an individual email but for now we just want to say that we are having to move things back a few months due to a number of things but mainly the fact that where we want to record is busy until the end of October so there is no point collecting money until we need it so if you have pledged money once again thanks and if not please feel free to carry on pledging.

Now July has been probably one of our busiest months ever, We seen to have spent the month in the lovely county of Cumbria either being rained on (thanks for the barbeque summer met office, (or should that be the wet office)) or basking in sunshine. The month started with a trip down to Dorset and our usual gig at the Anchor inn in Beer. The sun shone and everything was perfect except for the local traffic warden trying to give us a ticket………….luckily we got away with it but my was he unhappy about letting us off!

We then had a rare weekend at home doing local gigs including a gig at two dales where we were entertaining the Panther motorbike annual gathering.

Then we were off to Cumbria, Keswick to be exact and bearing in mind the met office forecast we decided to camp…….boy did it rain!! We survived but the Lake District lived up to its name and we were very nearly part of a new lake. Still as they say it was a character building exercise. Then it was back home for a few days to dry off and then  back to Hawkshead Cumbria and a rare Lancashire gig at Owd Nell’s tavern. Guess what happened next…yes back home to wash clothes and then back up to Cumbria. Now this time we were staying with Trevor and Judith some friends we met on one of our previous Cumbrian trips. What a great weekend we had, would you believe we ended up walking on beautiful deserted beeches in sunshine. Ok admittedly it newer stopped blowing a gale but it was a big surprise to find so many beautiful unspoilt beaches and villages, Una really did feel at home here and felt it was like Ireland.

Overall we did a lot of travelling and again people’s kindness in looking after us has really humbled us and a big thank you to all of you.

Now August is upon us and again there is no let up, we are off again to Dorset and hope to take in a bit of Sidmouth Folk festival and then we are off to Cropredy to enjoy the festival there.

We are then spending some time at home doing local gigs including a gig at the Rising Sun Sheffield which is a great little gig for us. Then we have to get ready for the Fylde folk festival at Fleetwood.

Is it just us or do we seen to be very busy? We are finding it a nice surprise that we are meeting more and more people who have been to this site to look at our gig guide and our thanks for dropping by.

Finally we hope you all have a great August and that the sun shines on you if you are going on holiday and hope to see you somewhere down the road.

JULY UPDATE

Hi all,

Firstly we promised an update on our new album appeal so here it is! So far we have had 20 provisional pledges for packages. This is a good start but what has surprised us is that we have had no one offer to just pre order the new album at £13.00

It would be nice if people would look at this as this is our lowest cost option and it is the easiest way of showing your support for our music.

Well another month has passed, where dose the time go? I know we have been very busy last month but it has flown by……..So what did we get up to besides Tony turning a funny shade of brown. Well just to cheat a little we must mention our trip to Bude folk festival at the end of May, what a great weekend we had. For once the weather was great sunny warm and each year the festival just gets better and better thanks to all the efforts of Lucy and …………..  A special mention to Bude rugby club and the man who makes everyone feel so welcome and is a big part of the festivals feel..Stuart you are our hero… name a festival where there is always toilet paper in the toilets and the showers are clean with hot water all the time. The star point was Stu bring us a cup of hot coffee to our tent in the mornings….what a star! It was also nice to meet some new people and make some new friends; we would love to get invited back again next year…….

Now the rest of the month was just as good with trips back down to Cornwall to Appledore and a beautiful Exmoor village. We were then off to Oxfordshire near Blemham palace. The locals even told us how we could get in to the grounds of Blenim palace via a place called the Combe gate. Again the sun shone and all was well in NFA land.

We had a special night at Belper folk club as it was a split gig with our good friend Jack Hudson, lots of friends there and our thanks to all those who came along and to Edd and John and all the team at the club for their efforts.

Then we were off to one of our favourite trips to Dorset and the little village of Beer by the sea. Again the sun shone and we were back on the cliff top garden performing to all the holiday makers while watching the sailing boats do there dance out at sea.

Talk about being spoilt!.............. and we do it all again in July and August!!

June also sees us disappearing to Cumbria twice as we have a number of new venues up there to perform at for the first time so it should be interesting and if all goes well Cumbria could become a regular pit stop of us in the future.

We are also doing a number of local gigs at places we have been before so if you are local to Derbyshire then please have a look at our gig guide and come along to one of the gigs.

Well that is it for this month, please remember to make your pledge for the new album if you can and we hope to see you somewhere down the road.

JUNE UPDATE

Hi all and welcome to our June update. Firstly can we please draw your attention to a new page called new album maybe can we ask that you please have a look and read of this page as this is very important to us, everything is explained there.

Hi and welcome to our June update. As we sit here at NFA towers the sun is shining and my god it looks as though we may even get a great summer. Oh we now…..famous last words but we have to keep the faith….especially as we are going to be travelling all around the country this summer performing...but more of that later…..

Firstly the major news this month was Tony has had a sheer!!! Yes he is no longer a long haired hippy…….no pictures as yet but will post some if the shock is not too much soon.

May was full of interesting new venues and people. The highlight of the month was our trip to Norfolk witch saw us perform at the Cider shed in Norwich and then at the folk on the pier folk festival Cromer where the sun shone and we had so much fun including seeing the dawn rise………….we should really know better at our ages!

We also got to perform at Cropredy…no not part of the festival but a really nice pub called the Brasenose and our thanks to Andy and Kath for looking after us so well.

Now those of you who know us will be wondering why we are putting our monthly update before the start of June... the reason is we are off to Cornwall for a couple of weeks so we will not be around for the first week of June. Looks as though we will be taking the tent as the weather forecast is looking good!

If you are down in Cornwall by any chance come along to the Bude folk festival or have a look at our gig list to see where we are.

We are also looking forward to our concert at the Belper Folk Club on the 16th June.

This is sure to be a special night as we will be splitting the gig with our friend Jack Hudson so it is a repeat of our Xmas concert. Tickets are still available so if you’re not on holiday why not come along.

If you can’t make this gig don’t worry we are at the King William in Milford on the 25th so maybe catch up with us then.

We will also be travelling to Oxfordshire and Cumbria during June so the question is are we musicians or are we just long distance drivers?

Please don’t forget our new album appeal, just go to the new album maybe page for details, our heart felt thanks to those who have pledged so far. And a big thank you to the Leadmills and Bottle Brook brewery tap for their sponsorship. We would also like to thank the following radio shows and podcasts who have been kind enough to either interview us or tell people about our appeal. It is nice to help along the way. If you get the chance go to these links and you can down load or listen to the podcasts

Thanks Phil

Dave Pascoe at Penwith radio for interviewing us live on his radio show on Fri 22nd May

Thanks Dave

And a bit of a premature thank you to Richard Penguin who is putting together a two show special about the folk on the pier folk festival which should be broadcast on the 31st may and 7th of June. More details at this link

Well that’s it for this month, as usual we have updated our gig guide and we hope the sun shines on you all!!

See you somewhere down the road

MAY UPDATE

Hi all and welcome to our May update. Firstly can we please draw your attention to a new page called new album maybe can we ask that you please have a look and read of this page as this is very important to us, everything is explained there.

We would also like to thank the online e magazine FATEA for including one of our songs “Kebab crazed Nutter” on their “Fatea Showcase Session For Summer 2009

This is an honour and we recommend that you take the time to download the album (the download is free!!) and have a listen to some great talent. Just go to this link to get your free download,

http://www.fatea-showcase-sessions.co.uk/showcasesessiontwo.html  Just follow the instructions at the bottom of the page re downloading.

The download will be available from the 1st May for three months only then it will be withdrawn so don’t forget!

Looking back on April it was nice to see some old friends at our gigs at the Crown in Cavendish Bridge and the Plough in Loughborough as well as all our friends at the Vernon arms Folk and Acoustic club for their support not just at the gig but throughout the years.

April was also the month we did our first gig in Cumbria……..Cockermouth to be exact. Our thanks to Nicola & Philip for making us most welcome and supplying the bottle of wine to Una for the Journey home….we look forward to returning to Cockermouth some time soon.

Now for May we start with a bang, gigs on the 1,2,3 and 4th of May sees us travelling from Chesterfield to Ashfield and from Oakham to Sheffield so all what we would call “local” gigs (well using our definition of local which is within 2 hours drive!) then a short break and off to Norfolk for the weekend. We start with a gig at the Cider Shed Norwich on Friday night. This is one of our favourite real ale pubs and it has a national reputation for the quality of its music so this gig is more like a concert in a pub!

We are then off to Cromer where we are appearing at the Folk on the Pier festival. This will be our fourth year there and we always have a great time. If you have never been to a folk festival this is the one for a first timer as you are by the sea and if you do not like the music you can always go for a long walk on the great beaches near by.

We then have a couple of local gigs before travelling to Cropredy the home of the famous Fairport Cropredy festival……unfortunately we have not been asked to do the festival so we thought we would take the music to the locals so we are performing at the Brassnose pub which is building up a great reputation for live music.

As if all this was not enough we fit in a trip to Ottley before heading off to Bude in Cornwall for the Bude folk festival at the end of the month………...there I told you we were busy this month!

Now we are staying down in Cornwall until the9th June as we have some other gigs down there to do so our next monthly update will be late next month ………probably around the 11 June so apologies but I will not get time to do the update before the 11th.

Finally there are also a couple of new pages that at the moment show us in test mode. The reason for these pages will become clear if you read the new album maybe page….have a look.

Well that’s it for this month, there is a lot to get through and I hope that you find something that interests you. Again we are always happy to answer any questions you may have so please feel free to ask on our comments page…that’s what it is there for.
